THE RISING SUN CANE CHAIR
Fully restored one-of-a-kind chair.
Once discovered abandoned beside a skip, this beautiful vintage cane chair has been meticulously restored in the Kate Morris Studio and brought back to life through traditional craftsmanship.
The original wooden frame has been completely stripped back, sanded and re-stained to reveal its natural warmth and character. The seat back has been re-caned by hand in a classic rising sun pattern, restoring both its structure and visual elegance.
The seat has been traditionally reupholstered using coil springs and natural materials, and finished in a soft, hard-wearing wool from Abraham Moon — a historic British mill renowned for its exceptional quality textiles.
Every stage of this restoration has been carried out with longevity in mind, resulting in a chair that is not only beautiful, but built to be used and cherished for generations to come.
This is a true one-off piece, combining heritage materials, skilled handwork and a contemporary studio sensibility.
