HI, I'M KATE
I'm the founder of Kate Morris Studio, a bespoke upholstery and textile design studio based in Reading Berkshire, specialising in bold, considered furniture transformations.
I've always been drawn to overlooked pieces and believe the most meaningful furniture is the kind that already exists. Pieces with history, character and stories deserve a second life. The chairs left by the roadside, the charity shop finds, the furniture with a past and a story still to tell.
DESIGN-LED UPHOLSTERY
After completing a Diploma in Upholstery at the AMUSF, I developed my practice and launched Kate Morris Studio — a contemporary upholstery studio focused on sustainable, design-led craft.
Alongside commissioned upholstery, I also create one-of-a-kind Studio Works — original furniture and objects developed through ongoing material and design exploration.
My work sits at the intersection of traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, combining time-honoured upholstery techniques with modern fabrics, colour and pattern.
THE STUDIO & MY PROCESS
Trained in both traditional and modern upholstery techniques and working from my garden studio, I strip each piece back to its frame and rebuild it using high-quality upholstery materials, bold textiles and considered design.
Whether it's a family heirloom, a vintage find or something you've simply fallen in love with, my aim is to create furniture you'll treasure for years to come — pieces that feel personal, purposeful and made to last.
A PERSONAL PRACTICE
Kate Morris Studio is a small, independent studio rooted in craft, sustainability and individuality. My practice moves between commissioned work and independent Studio Works, allowing space for close collaboration, experimentation and furniture with a strong sense of story.
FURNITURE & SOFT FURNISHINGS
Alongside furniture commissions, I also create made-to-measure blinds, curtains and cushions, designed to sit seamlessly within your space and complement your interior as a whole.
Each project is approached with the same care, attention to detail and respect for materials, resulting in work that feels thoughtful, balanced and quietly confident.
