GOUT STOOL
A tiny footstool for your poorly foot, back in the day - I had never come across a gout stool before.
Once the top fabric had been removed, it was clear the frame was barely holding together. So it was stripped back, the joints re-glued and completely reupholstered using traditional materials and techniques. A lot of work for such a small piece, but definitely worth the effort. The fabric was a gorgeous textile that my customer had found on his travels, making this tiny piece completely unique.
Work carried out:
- Full strip back to the original frame
- Structural repairs and re-gluing of joints
- Frame stabilised and prepared for upholstery
- New webbing applied to seat
- Traditional build-up using natural upholstery materials
- Hand-shaped and stitched seat and back
- Upholstered in customer-supplied textile
This was a customer commission. If you have a chair or piece of furniture you’d like restored or reupholstered, I’d love to discuss your project. Please get in touch to talk through options and fabrics.
