1920'S ARMCHAIRS

Made in the 1920s, these armchairs were among some of the first to use spring units rather than individual coil springs. Originally belonging to my customer’s mum, they have now become the perfect place to sit and look out into the garden.
Influenced by a piece of artwork on the wall, the new fabric choice completely transforms the chairs while respecting their original form. They were stripped right back to the frame. The spring units in the seat and back were carefully assessed and found to be in excellent condition, especially considering the chairs’ age, so these were retained in situ. The springs on the arms needed to be re-positioned and tied down. Rebuilding the upholstery using traditional materials and techniques has ensured these chairs are structurally sound and ready to last for many more decades.

Work carried out:
– Full strip-back to frame
– Spring units assessed and retained
– Arm springs repositioned and re-tied
– Traditional upholstery rebuild

Fabric Used:
- Main Fabric: Alchemy in Teal by Warwick Fabrics.
- Piping Fabric: Plush Velvet in Moss by Warwick Fabrics.
